PAC can be used as water-soluble gel for drilling fluids, and can from artesian well liquor.
1) It has good water-loss controlling ability; especially PAC is highly effective drop filter-loss agent. Even added at low quantity, it can control water loss at very high level, but does not affect slurry’s other characteristics.
2) It can form high quality slurry cake which is strong and flexible.
3) It has good temperature resistance and superior anti-salt character. Under certain salt density, it can remain good water-loss capability and certain rheology, so the viscosity in salt solution is the same as in water, which is specially suitable for sea misering and deep well.
4) It effectively controls the rheology of slurry, with good non-Newtonian fluid performance.
1, CMC is sodium salt of Carboxyl Methyl Cellulose, white or pale powder, with density of 0.5-0.7 g/cm3, no odor, can absorb the moisture in air. Soluble in water, insoluble in organic solvent, it has best viscosity performance when pH = 7, when pH > 10 or pH < 5, the viscosity will decrease obviously;
2, PAC is new type and more stable modified CMC, processed by solvent-slurry processing. Because PAC has higher DS (Degree of Substitute), like 0.85~ 1.4, and with more uniform distribution of substitute group, PAC can be used in wider industries and more complicated surroundings, and meet higher technical requirements. PAC can replace CMC in all CMC’s application field, and the dosage can be only 30-60% of CMC, therefore proved better performance and economical efficiency.
3, In oil drilling, CMC and PAC is widely used in water-based drilling mud, which can effectively reduce the filtration rate of many water-based oil and gas drilling fluids, CMC and PAC can also be used to increase and stabilize viscosity to improve hole cleaning and suspension properties.
